Central City Rental listings falling

The Gordon Wilson apartment block is to be evacuated in a hurry as a result of engineering reviews for earthquake safety. This comes at a time when Central City listings on Trademe are at a very low level, the lowest on a seasonal basis since 2010 and maybe earlier. What chance is there for 130 tenant households to get a rental under this pressure?

The remainder of the City has a surplus of rental properties with listings at an all time high, driven by Kapiti and Welington outer suburbs including the Hutt. Maybe this is due to public transport costs, alongside increasing pressure from migration away from the City.
